Miniature Park "Little Harz"
In "Little Harz" the Imperial Palace of Goslar, Wernigerode castle, the buildings on the Brocken mountain, the cathedral at Halberstadt, the little castle in Blankenburg, the cathedrals in Quedlinburg and in Gernrode are among the many buildings of Harz depicted in miniature form each covering a few square metres of park.
More than 50 miniature replicas of these famous buildings were built in the workshops of the Oscar-Kämmer-school. The attention to detail in the 1:25 scale models is very impressive; each little window ledge, every tile, every ornament and colour has been faithfully reproduced from the original. The miniature version of Wernigerode Castle ® is probably one of the most impressive and largest buildings in the miniature park. At 2.80 metres in height and 5m x 6m width and length, it consists of more than 30 segments, including 4 towers, 8 houses, the courtyard and the castle hill.
Other notable exhibits include the replica Harz narrow gauge railway route to the Brocken, and the gondola lift in Thale. Many dwarf shrubs and bonsai plants complete the "Little Harz" experience for the whole family. At many of the miniature buildings you can learn interesting facts about the history of each building at the information boards. Many of the displays are interactive, with young and old alike being able to operate railway trains, chair lifts, gondolas and other features. The demonstration workshop staff of the Oskar-Kämmer school are happy to discuss, with big and small visitors alike, their elaborate work on the miniatures.
A visit to the public gardens with its themed areas and playgrounds, its small animal enclosures and the gorgeous vistas of the Harz landscape, provides the perfect finish to a family day out.
